Useful resources for travel & transportation while volunteering in Israel

So you've decided to come to Israel to show your support and volunteer. That's amazing! Here are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind after you choose your Israel volunteering opportunity.

Pointers

  • When taking the bus, check the bus number with number on bus stop to confirm you're on the right side (it's very easy to get on the wrong side so double check).

  • Google maps is great for walking direction (You can check bus routes for this)

  • Waze is best for driving

  • Tel Aviv has a Shabbat bus around the city - It's free

Car Rental Companies: (Airport Terminal 1 or 3)

Parking

  • Parking in Tel Aviv & Jerusalem is very difficult and they ticket immediately so look for parking lots on Google to park
  • While street parking, make sure you are only parking by a sidewalk with blue & white stripes

Paying for Public Transportation

  • You don't need a Ravkav - you can pay on Moovit

  • To pay for the bus, you scan once you get on

  • To pay for the train, you scan to get on and get off

  • To pay for the Lightrail, you pay as soon as you get on or at the station prior (they are very strict about it)
